~ Offering students in need the opportunity to grow through travel experiences ~
While many students have families that can afford to give their children opportunities such as the East Coast Trip, children in the foster care system typically do not. Given their circumstances, they wouldn't even ask.
This past year however, one such young lady wanted to go so badly she asked her case worker if there were any chance she might be able to go. Her case worker called Countryside Tours to inquire on the details - which started our wheels in motion. After a few calls, D.A. Blodgett graciously offered to pay the deposit and we then were motivated to cover the rest...except that is, for a Jenison parent who freely donated $100.00 upon learning of the situation after talking with me (Sandy).
When speaking with the folks at D.A. Blodgett, it was realized how large the need for kids in foster care is to have the chance to be involved in such experiences as the East Coast Trip -- which is why we decided to personally help them by forming this foundation.
If our fundraising is successful, we will also identify ways for students not in foster care, but without the ability to fully pay for the trip, to earn the right to go. Strict criteria will be set up for this and students identified to us as possible candidates will be screened by our board of directors.
We are thrilled to say that through our travel industry contacts and long history of conducting such a worthwhile student learning experience, $5,000.00 has already been pledged by the owner of a nearby student travel magazine! Our sincere thanks go out to her generosity for funding the official kick-off of the Countryside Youth Foundation.
It is with this said, that we will begin to also accept donations from current school parents or teachers. It is with such giving that another student who isn't able to afford going, will be able to participate in this once in a lifetime experience. Please consider giving what you can.
Thank you!
